2026 Scholarship for Young Singers 青年歌手獎學金

The Xiaoping Arts and Culture Foundation offers a scholarship specifically designed for young singers, supporting emerging vocal talent in British Columbia, Canada. With an emphasis on Bel Canto and classical vocal traditions, this scholarship empowers promising artists to pursue advanced training, specialized education, and  performance opportunities.

Who Can Apply

Young singers aged 16–30 who live in British Columbia, Canada and are actively pursuing their vocal talent may qualify for a scholarship for young singers. This includes students or emerging artists who are either studying voice or demonstrating a strong passion and talent for singing.

What’s Included

Scholarship Award: CAD $300 (one recipient in 2026, future awards may vary depending on funding). This scholarship is specifically aimed at supporting young singers with exceptional vocal talent. 


Recognition: Recipients will receive an honorary certificate and may be invited to perform at Foundation events or be featured in Foundation communications.

Award announcement: May 10, 2026

Young Singers Scholarship Program 青年歌手獎學金計劃書

Purpose

The Xiaoping Arts and Culture Foundation Scholarship for Young Singers was established to encourage and support emerging vocal talent in the region. This scholarship for young singers provides financial assistance to promising vocalists, enabling them to pursue advanced training, education, or performance opportunities, with a focus on Bel Canto and classical vocal traditions.

Objectives

  • Identify and support emerging singers with exceptional potential
  • Foster the study and practice of Bel Canto and related vocal arts
  • Promote community engagement through recipient participation in Foundation activities
  • Contribute to the long-term vitality of the vocal arts in British Columbia

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 16–30 years old
  • Residency: Applicants must be residents of British Columbia, Canada
  • Background: Open to students and emerging singers who are actively pursuing vocal studies or demonstrate exceptional interest and talent in singing
  • Commitment: Recipients must show dedication to their artistic development and be willing to participate in Foundation or community events when invited

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • Completed application form
  • Résumé or CV highlighting education, training, and performance experience
  • Personal Statement (250–300 words) outlining artistic goals, commitment to vocal studies, and how the scholarship will support their development
  • One to two letters of recommendation from a teacher, conductor, or music professional
  • Two contrasting performance recordings (e.g., one aria/art song and one folk/contemporary piece)

Screening and Selection Process

  1. Eligibility Review: Applications for the British Columbia scholarship are screened for compliance with eligibility requirements. 
  2. Application Assessment: The Scholarship Committee evaluates application materials using a standardized rubric.
  3. Audition/Interview: Shortlisted candidates present live or video-recorded performances showcasing their vocal talent and participate in an interview. 
  4. Final Selection: The Committee recommends recipients to the Foundation Board for Final approval.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Vocal Technique & Musicianship – 30% 
  • Artistic Expression & Potential – 25% 
  • Commitment to Learning & Community Engagement – 30% 
  • Clarity and Strength of Personal Statement – 15% 

Scholarship Award

  • Number of Awards: One award will be ffered in 2026. The number of awards in future years will be determined annually based on available funding
  • Award Amount: CAD $300 per recipient
  • Disbursement: Funds will be issued directly to recipients or, where appropriate, to their educational institution
  • Recognition: Recipients will be presented an honorary certificate and may be invited to perform at Foundation events or be featured in Foundation communications.

Administration and Governance

  • The Scholarship Program will be administered by a Scholarship Committee appointed by the Foundation Board
  • The Committee will consist of 3–5 members, including music educators, community representatives, and Foundation leadership
  • Conflict of interest policies will apply to ensure impartiality in all decisions
  • The program will be reviewed annually to refine criteria, improve processes, and assess outcomes
